The Village Hall Management Committee has been made aware of several comments on social media regarding parking in the village by the fish and chip and Thai food vans.
Please note that the Parish Council is not responsible for the village hall and car park. The hall is a registered charity and we, the committee, as trustees have a legal obligation to run the hall prudently. Our only income is from hire charges which are kept to the minimum to cover running costs and those events the committee runs itself.
As much a we might like to allow free use of the hall or car park, the legal obligations mean we cannot. These commercial food vans know they are welcome to park in the VH car park for a small fee.
Our small committee of unpaid volunteers work very hard to keep the hall in good repair to enable the community to enjoy its facilities and it’s not unreasonable to ask for a small payment from commercial businesses to help achieve this.
If you are concerned about where the vans are parked, please let them know directly. Babergh do not charge street vendors a licence fee but vendors are obliged to adhere to Suffolk CC Highways regulations.
