Exploring the Vital Role of The Leavenheath Village Hall Management Committee

Did you know that Leavenheath Village Hall is a charity? Unlike some village halls in the area, it is not run by the Parish Council.  It is run as a charitable trust, and managed by a committee of volunteers.

Our current committee volunteers are: Jill Dunkley, John Garrett, Julie Decort-Effeny, Sally Whitelaw, Abby Simpson, Gill West, Charlie West, Joe Loosley and Cornelia Smith. We all have one aim: to maintain the village hall to its highest standards, and make improvements when income or outside funding allows.

This isn’t always an easy job because we only get a small annual income, and finding funding is a difficult and lengthy process. We were lucky to secure funding for the new accessibility ramp in 2025. However, this was only Phase one of two - we need extra funding to build two concrete parking spaces either side of the ramp.

Last year the committee ran two very successful events, and we have more planned for 2026.  The first of which is the Jumble Sale on Saturday 21st March, which is in aid of Leavenheath Scouts & Village Hall Funds. The committee has also set a date for its 2nd Christmas Fayre – Sunday 29th November 2026. These committee-run events provide us with much needed additional funds.

We are always on the lookout for volunteers – you don’t have to join the committee to help out at one of our events, or even help keep our village hall looking its best. With Spring on the horizon, the grass is growing, but so are the weeds! If you like gardening, and have a some time to spare, please do get in contact with us, as we would be so grateful for any gardening or maintenance help you can give.
